Getting InvolvedWe are so grateful for the support of our community! Volunteers are a vital part of the animal rescue process and we are thankful for everyone’s support.  If you would like to submit an application to volunteer, please learn about the different opportunities and follow the instructions listed below!  Thank you!

We have three primary ways for volunteering:
1) Fostering

2) Adoption Events:
We can always use help with participation at adoption events to help set up, check-in fosters, monitor puppies, and direct interested adopters.

3) Transport Check-In
Transport days require lots of hands-on opportunities when puppies arrive off of a 14 hour transport. The puppies are checked in and examined by the Veterinarian, vaccinated, dewormed, cleaned, fed/watered, and walked before they are picked up by their designated foster.

If you are a new volunteer, it is very easy to sign up!

  1.  Fill out & submit the volunteer application found here.
  2.  View our volunteer opportunities listed on our calendar.
  3. Click the volunteer day that works with your schedule, and sign up! * You must submit and have a volunteer application on file before you can schedule an appointment.
  •  If you select a date and click the link to sign up and it says “No Appointments Available”, it means slots are full.  Volunteer opportunities fill up fast, so stay tuned to the website or follow us on Facebook for notifications on when volunteer opportunities are posted!
  • Volunteer Opportunities for Adoption Events and Rescue Transports (Intakes) will open on the calendar on Sunday evenings at 8PM with corresponding volunteer slots for the following weekend.

Example: Volunteer slots will open at 8PM on Sunday for any Adoption Event held on the following Saturday, and/or Transport on Sunday. Download the WTAR App for notifications and direct sign-up!

Youth Volunteer Opportunities
While our age requirement is 17 to volunteer unsupervised at our events, there are opportunities available for those under 17.

Youths can help by viewing our wish list and by setting up collection efforts for these much needed items with their girl/boy scout troops, teammates, classmates or church groups and deliver them to the Wolf Trap Animal Rescue events.

Advocating the work that the Wolf Trap Animal Rescue does is always helpful. Youths who are active on social media can ‘like’ us on Facebook and share our messages. They can also view our adoptable animal lists and promote their favorite shelter animals.
